For what it's worth, if the profile of FT/SGII/DSII players is of 
interest:

28, single, male, software specialist, background of 17 years gaming 
(starting in RPGs, added boardgames and minifigs). I've played about 
20+ rpgs, as many boardgames and as many miniatures rules in my time 
in the gaming world. Have plenty of other hobbies so only get to 
game about twice or three times a month. 

As for the question of should one get kids to play GZG games? I 
hardly think it is a requirement. Kids are great for many reasons, 
but I think one can play GZG and other companies products without 
having kids. (Either that or I'm some kind of heretic!)
