Value Added Tax - basically a purchase tax of 17.5% levied on almost
everything except books, kids' clothing and food. A filthy plot by the
European Union....
The way it works is that small companies do not have to charge it until
their gross turnover hits a certain threshold - we've just hit it, so
the
VAT amount now has to be added to all our prices except the rulebooks,
so
we can collect the money on behalf of H.M.Government and give it to
them......
We can work out VAT-exclusive prices for overseas customers, as you guys
don't have to pay it. :)
They just get you on customs duties when it arrives in your own
country... :(

It is mainly down to the fact that GeoHex put the big metal stands in
with
the ships for US sale (and blister-pack them), so that the small ships
have
much more metal in the stands than in the minis! In the UK we use the
much
cheaper plastic stands, and don't pre-package the models - for the US,
blistering 4 scouts & 4 stands costs as much (and uses as much metal, if
not more!) than 1 Battleship with one stand! Different techniques for
VERY
different markets.
