I use two 7/8" fender washers glued inside those bases to lower the CG
and
then use aluminum or brass tubing instead of the plastic posts.

Per comments from this list on April 17-18, 2005:
FT004 is a small metal base about 18mm across, plastic post
FT003 is a large metal base, 50mm diameter (42mm across flats) with a
metal
post. You can see it in the pictures of the large ESU minis.

>From what I have gotten from GZG, it is the same regular domed plastic
25mm
across hex base you first mentioned, but here with a metal post instead

plastic.
