I've used forums that do "thread" replies to the message they're
directly
responding to and they end up being completely unwieldly. YOu have
responses  at different levels of the page posted at different times and
you have to sort through them to find the recent ones you haven't read
yet. I find it combersome and chaotic. I promotes people sliding off
topic
and creating whole new topic threads within the same thread instead of
starting a whole new one. I've seen those interfaces and they never
promote posting on the boards.
