	Density.

Lasers deposit all their energy on the surface of the target.

Particle beams actually deposit their energy several centimeters
inside the target, but the beam tends to bloom while in transit,
making it difficult to maintain a dense beam.

Drake's powerguns magically manage to have all the advantages
of particle beams but with none of the disadvantages.
