Interesting ideas about space bourne invasions.
In the Falklands battles in the 80s between England and Argentinia. The
invading troops were transported by cruise liners, because Brtian did
not
have the troop transport capacity.
If there are large liners or colony barges they would make good
transport
ships. As well as really huge targets.
Some of the troops could be transported in suspended animation to redue
space and life support requirements. Imagine 10k troops running laps on
the
deck.
If the invaders are air moble, as is likely they can bounce around the
planet doing hit and run raids wearing the defenders down and if the
defenders mass to repel the invaders they are inviting orbital
bombardment.
Some of the pacific island campaigns in WW2 could be a good idea as to
the
logistics involved and the likely tactics by both the defender and the
attacker.
