It's worse around Indonesia / Malaysia as so many vessels have to pass
through the region and there are many small islands to base speedboats
out
of.

Australian flagged vessels are usually ignored, as they don't keep large
amounts of cash in the safe (unlike the "flag of convenience" ships) as
the
companies use e-banking, not cash payment.
Of course, then there is the Australian captain currently on smuggling
charges as he didn't declare that he had 5 rifles and 10,000 rounds of
ammo
on board to "repel pirates" when entering an Indonesian port.
