G'day,

> And Eisteddfod is ????

In its current incarnation (in Australia at least) it's a song and dance
(and sometimes poetry) competition basically. Lots of people (99.99%
female) of various ages (4 and up) doing routines of varying quality in
front of a panel of judges and a theatre full of anxious or bored
parents (depending on their level of natural artistic talent, desire to
have outstanding children and desire to be anywhere else on Earth!).
While Janny loves going I fall into the category who sympathise with the
joke from the BBC comedy show "The Goodies" that "eisteddfod" comes from
the old Welsh "eistedd" meaning bored and "fod" meaning stiff ;)

But as a parent I have no choice but to sit politely through 6 hours of
people tapping to "singing in the rain", usully in pink raincoats, or
singing the 145th rendition for the day of "I saw Mummy Kissing Santa
Claus"... unfortunately its too dark to read in there and painting minis
would be positively frowned upon... Janny was upset enough last year
when she discovered I'd used her eyebrow pencil to scribble scenario
ideas on the back of the program... many of the based around storming a
building and liberating a suffering heroine from a fate worse than death
;)

Cheers
