    For every devout hindu there are probably at least a hundred (or
hundreds of) not so devout hindus.  I don't think you'd have a hard time
getting a sizable population of Indians into space...  Even then it
would
provide for "good" conflict to have the devout types verbally (and
physically) against the space faring types.
