Spoke too soon...scrolling down the list
(http://www.chinfo.navy.mil/navpalib/factfile/ffiletop.html) shows all
sorts of support craft under the "Naval Fleet Auxiliary Force."  These
ships are associated with the Military Sealift Command which "operates
an average of 120 government-owned and commercial charter ships."
