Minor point: Normally, you don't take live ammunition on such an
exercise (for obvious reasons).

Possible ways around that:
- They have laser or other types of rifles where the change from
'exercise' to 'deadly' is done by turning a key.
- The lieutenant and the corporal have a few magazines of live ammo
'just in case' (or for a planned live-fire exercise).
