Having seen the huge aircraft that the US airborne laser currently uses,
a 
Jumbo jet type thing (got all the lingo me!) at the Farnborough Air
Show; I 
doubt that the time-scale is as short as sugested. The Airborne Laser is

currently being developed to engage inbound ICBMs et al, which are very 
vulnerable to this kind of attack, and requires the entire length of the

jumbo for the primary laser.

Maybe I am wrong...

P.s. the USAF Airborne Laser has to have the most out-landish cap-badge
