Hi,
The most simple solution to the whole movement issue, and imho the most
elegent was to simply draw a map (with an agreed scale), declare the
scale,
and allow the movement rates from the game (inc double movement in
column
etc) to be applied, write orders, and wherever the troops met on the
map,
have a battle there. So orders would read somehting like:
Procede in march column until {grid} then deploy for battle and procede
to
{location} and hold if no contact.
It was a system for Principles of war (British colonial wars) but I
think
that the principles coudl be transfered.
some ideas:
Observation and command roles can be made to see if the troops can react
before they are attacked. Similaly if troops are sent forward to set up
an
ambush somewhere then they might have a greater chance of catching the
enemy
unawares, and still in march column etc.
