Actually, not worse than a normal petrol engine. There isn't going to be
a
nuclear reaction. At worst, your hydrogen will burn in a normal,
chemical
fire. And the reactor will not need much fuel, so there shouldn't be
much to
burn. If it's built ouf the right materials (sensible anyway) there
won't be
much contamination, either.
