When warlords vied for power and bandits roamed the lands taking what

Any idea when Shichinin-no Samurai takes place? It's post Portugese 
visitors as there are three arquebus's in use by the bandits (one 
that Kikuchio snags and the other that Gorobei takes).

 From the accounts I've seen, they are placed some time in the 
Tokugawa likely middle to late 17th century. I'll have to watch it 
again and read the credits....
