2-squad PLTs would have less than 20 riflemen in 'em. 
Not robust enough to absorb casualties and continue
fighting.  

Second, only 2 squads lacks tactical flexibility.

The only time I use 2-squad platoons, I have the
squads in powered armor, a weapons squad, and 4 IFVs
providing backup.
