The new minis are in N-scale / 1/144, like miniature train sets; the
old ones were HO / 1/87 scale; the new ones are actually better for
moving around on a board, but harder to paint detailed (unless you're
used to painting 6mm figs).

The computer game's construction system is ... similar enough so you
wouldn't be lost.  Nowhere near as usefully detailed, of course.

Deliberately so.  VOTOMS was one of the original inspirations (just
like Gundam inspired Jovian Chronicles).
