Unfortunately, with the current rule structure, it's unavoidable.  Even
if I 
drop the GMS as you suggest and add a PDS, in order to carry 2 inf AND
any 
support weapon, Class 4 is necessary.

I have considered relegating DFFG to fire support.  The light MDC/RFAC 
design is winning out.
