True Confession time:

Well, we used to do it with WW2 micro armor but there were no easily
obtained 1/285th or 1/300th infantry figures (that we knew about) and we
had literally hundreds of Infantry counters from SPI games...  Still...

Now there is a plethora (relatively) of good to usable 6mm figures for
such things.
