I've been getting excellent results with HD Designs primer, Fred Meyer's
store brand.  It goes on very fine, adheres paint well, and it's cheap.
It also has a spray nozzle that has an oval spray pattern rather than
circular, allowing quicker coverage (though wastes some primer for small
figures, like micro-armor for DSII).
