p.31: 'Area Defence Systems /ADS) can be used to defend ANY friendly 
element which is within 12" of the ADS vehicle, provided a clear 
line-of-sight exists between the two elements.'

Note that according to the rules an ADS vehicle vehicle can never engage
a 
missile which attacks a *target* more than 12" away from the ADS vehicle

even if the missile's flight path takes it within 12" of the ADS
vehicle.
