For those who plan on attending:
The tourney is a 6 hour time slot this year (as opposed to last
year's 8), so even though the format is essentially the same, a few
things will be different.
Each game will be 50 minutes with the limit strictly enforced. Thus
aggressive play will reap rewards.
Two qualifying rounds (so everyone will get at least 2 games). The
scores from these rounds will determine who makes the initial
brackets. Scores will be used to determine seeding on the brackets as
well. There is room for 16 players in the initial brackets, so it's
conceivably possible that everyone will get into the brackets if
turnout is less than 16.
These 2 rounds will use either pre-generated FB1 fleets, or FB1
fleets of the player's own design (design rules will follow soon).
All play within the brackets will make use of identical fleets on
both sides of the table. Thus the skill of the individual will be
emphasized over point shaving or "the ideal fleet builder." These
fleets will not be revealed until the time of the game. (In other
words you can't go off and practice with them now.)
The "surprise" fleets of the brackets will also ensure that no one
plays the same fleet 6 times running, and gets bored to tears
reliving 1 game over and over again 6 times.
PS - I'd like to post this to the web somewhere so non-listers can
see what's going on as well. Any volunteers who can write HTML (to
