Well, according to the CIA World Factbook
(http://www.odci.gov/cia/publications/factbook/index.html, *love* this
site), "the legislative union of Great Britain and Ireland was
implemented
in 1801, with the adoption of the name the United Kingdom of Great
Britain
and Ireland".  Though since the name changed to "The United Kingdom of
Great Britain and Northern Ireland" in 1927...?
