Clarification: when BIF says "plasma guns", he means FB1's pulse torps
rather than the Starfire plasma guns. The Starfire (3rd edition) plasma
guns are short-ranged but *extremely* nasty within that range, and also
have a very significant anti-fighter firepower.

The novel in question being Weber/White's "In Death Ground".

In the novel, the Pg2 (2nd generation Plasma Gun, using the Starfire
notation) was quite effective indeed against fighters - in fact, if you
want "historical" anti-fighter efficiencies for the Acids (measured in
fighter kills per Mass compared to what point defence manages), each
all-arc pulser needs 2-3 PDS dice rather than just 1. Each extra PDS
die should increase the cost of the Pulser by ~1xMass.

Correct.

No more than the Allies wanted to during ISW-4. "Historically" (ie. in
the novel) most Acids were destroyed by long-range fire before getting
into Pg2 range, though :-/

These would be perfect for tactical maps. I suspect these could be 
pasted directly into the Close Combat series of WWII computer game 
(the SG2 types should like the CC series).

Or for a con, enlarge 'em and print 'em out, and place your terrain 
on the photo.

I hear tell the US has just quietly allowed one of their corps to sell

resolution images from satellites. 

As a wargamer, I'm all in favour of this. Undoubtedly, there are a
thousand
reasons why a gov't with hi-res image-on-demand capacity might be
fearsome,
but not much one can do about that.
