You coulds also argue that the type of weapon used would affect this:
HVC's, HKP's, and DFFG's, based on their descriptions in the rules,
would be 
shaped most like modern main guns, and thus have larger breeches to
worry 
about inside the turret.  MDC's breeches would simply be feed
mechanisms, 
since the "Bits that makes them go" would be the coils and rails inside
the 
barrel assembly, and as for lasers, "what's a barrel?"

The main problem is the amount of breech that
projects into the turret.

Actual elevation values depends
on the use of the vehicle (IFVs sometimes have high elevations so that
they
can hit the upper floors of buildings in urban fighting), the size of
the
main armament (ie is there room to elevate / depress the gun inside the
turret) and the build of the vehicle (you could use the vehicle's
stealth
factor - higher stealth = lower profile = less room to elevate the gun).
