RE: DS2: special armour on light VTOLS?

Yes, it would be valid.  AC 0 is equivalent to the armour on your car
(almost none, but it might survive getting shot at, depending where
you're
hit).  The cost is neglible, so it would definately be worth it for the
extra 25% survivability.
