This is something I did quite a lot in a Battletech campaign I was in. I
had
my (fast) mech charge across the battlefield and used my last 2 movement
points to go prone. This tactic worked great as long as I was not in
short
range of another Mech. 

DS2 should allow the same option for walkers. Use the last 1mp to crouch
(allows to hide behind terrain) or last 2mp to go prone (removes the
"one
size larger" penalty).
