This is of general OT interest and quite on topic for GZG based sites, 
having run several sites my picks would be

Homestead http://www.homestead.com weird requirements for index page
and I can't get ftp to work, but seems a good service, 12Mb space
but you can have multiple accounts on same user name,
 no advertising, medium speed (rating ****)

Crosswinds http://www.crosswinds.net unlimited space, good
ftp support, banner ads, glacially slow (rating **)

Xoom http://xoom.com unlimited space,  small frame adverts , lots of
free stuff, ftp, medium speed (rating ***)
