Made by the same firm. May even be sister ships. You see, she was built
for the Bass Straight ferry run, and when business turned bad, and the
RAN wanted a fast transport, she was available.

They have better seakeeping qualities than any other vessel of their
size. Bass Strait is in the "Roaring Forties" so this was a major design
consideration. I believe a similar vessel currently holds the Blue
Riband for fastest transatlantic crossing.
