Scratchbuilding "organic" ships

Just a quick note:

If one is trying to scratchbuild a fleet of alien ships with that
icky organic look, do check out your local sporting goods store.
In the fly fishing section is a wide variety of inexpensive
garishly colored fishing lures just about the right size to
mount on a stand.  Some are octopoid, some look fishlike, others
are like tiny crayfish.  Some have rainbow diffraction gratings,
others are neon colored.

Something to think about.
