I've mentioned the Arena games with ships longer than myself, and have
seen
WWII ship battles in gyms and parking lots with 1/1200 to 1/600 or 700
models.

I'm talking playing on the dirt. Not sure about the UK, but the US has
plenty
of parks acres in size in most towns of any size. And these are
semi-wilderness
to meadows, so few manicured flower beds to worry you. You could play
several
small skirmishes that could eventually congregate into one large fur
ball.
