Suicide vs fighters is partly ramming, partly explosive debris from all
those unstable munitions. You don't necessarily have to be touching
your target to take them down in a nuclear fireball.
That's why the defending squadron resolves it's shooting first, before
they try to ram/explode. This balances it out, as the attackers are
more interested in getting *really* close to make sure of the kill, than
their own survival (they're going to die anyway...).

It just seems that it is NO easier to Ram an enemy fighter than it is to
shoot it down. (Any time reading about fighter combat or any simulator
time
will show that up in a heart beat.) So it seems to me a dubious rule.
However the Suicide rule vs big ships sounds legit.
