Subject: FTFB: Scenerio + Q?'s
Has anyone drawn up tech levels of ships/equipment/hull for their games.
I'm
thinking of running a conquest campaign... kinda like risk with ftfb.
But,
I'd like to simulate third world powers that have lesser technology. I
was
thinking of saying something like....
tech - 1: (sub-light)
class - 1 beams, pdaf, firecon, missles(MT-nuculear only),
armor,
cargo, hanger bays, ships boats, streamlining.
Largest Hull: 40 Largest Practical: 20
tech - 1+: (ftl)
as tech-1, plus ftl drives ( both tug and normal )
tech - 2:
as tech-1, plus:
class - 2 beams, adaf, missles(MT-emp and needle), ...
screen -1 ...
Largest hull: 100 Largest Practical: 60
tech - 3:
as tech-2, plus:
class - 3 beams, screen - 2, needle beam ....
Largest Hull: 250 Largest Practical: 200
Or possibly breaking tech into seperate groups and handling them
differently.
I was also going to classify the ftfb's powers into the tech chart, and
then
hack up a couple of minor races to be less technologically evolved and
hence
easier to anhilate... Does anyone else like the idea of the NSL Ernheld
frigate
jumping into a minor system and being ambushed by some low tech military
ships
that see the frigate as a battleship in their eyes? While they try
firing their
mighty pds systems at it? Anyway, just some crazy ramblings.
Oh well....... here's another fleshed out thought/scenerio. Does anyone
rember the "day of the Juggernaught".... it was a Star Frontiers: Knight
hawks
scenerio in Dragon magazine eons ago.... well, here's a small revamp of
it.

Free-Cal Tex Scenerio's
------------------------
#2: "He's At it again ..."
Unknown Vessel (Free-Cal Tex Forces)
------------------------------------
1 JuggerNaught Class SCCS "JuggerNaught"
with full complement of heavy fighters
NAC Forces
----------
1 Fleet Carrier (normal Fighters)
2 Minerva/A Class frigate
1 DD
ESU Forces
----------
1 Vorchesky CA
2 DD's
IDEA
-----
Jason Gates the IX's various computer mega corporations were
becoming
boring and predictable. In an effort to spice up his life, he
decided
to help Free Cal Tex assert its independence by building them a
new
class of vessel. In a stolen momemnt of inspiration Gates
designed the
mighty JuggerNaught based on this old program called Win98 that
was
just a huge monstrosity.
While the ship was being built, he was pushing a new 3D Virtual
Reality
Video Game to "recruit" punk teens to crew his massive ship.
After
convincing his "crew" that it was all just a super realistic
video
game... he ordered them to attack the research station Eureka!
To do
so however ment entering the hotly contested Rio Grand star
system.
Currently the Star System was hotly contested between the NAC
and
ESU forces. Both had partial sector fleets that were attempting
to
keep each other tied up while they waited for reinforcements to
arrive.
The ESU in particular were really edgy since they were
outgunned.
Gates decided that Free Cal Tex should receive the system, since
they
had some really nice beaches. It also seemed fitting too, Gates
did
need another Tax write off.
Special Rules
-------------
For each ship using Active Sensor in a turn that is within 18"
of
JuggerNaught roll 1 die. For each fighter group that is within
6"
of JuggerNaught roll 1 die/2. Add up all of the dice roles for
each
force. If Forces Cooperte (NAC and ESU) they can add up their
dice
to determine information level.
<10 Unknown Ship... Mass, thrust levels, screen levels all
known
<20 Human Origin Ship (above) + weapon systems and bearings
<30 Id'd as Jason Gates Vessel..... That schmuck!
Congrats you just figured out the ships origin.
Victory Conditions
------------------
There are 3 fleets, each fleet scores victory seperately.
NAC

2 pts for carrier surviving
1 pt for at least 1 escort surviving
2 pts for all escorts surviving
1 pt for teaming up with ESU
5 pts for destroying JuggerNaught
1 pt for forcing JuggerNaught to flee
2 pt for Discovering the Truth About JuggerNaught's Origin and
successfully escaping
7+ Decisive Victory
5+ Significant Victory
3+ You blew it...
< 3 So you think you can command a starship huh?
ESU
---
2 pts for Vorchesky surviving
1 pt for at least 1 escort surviving
2 pts for all escorts surviving
1 pt for teaming up with NAC to destroy JuggerNaught
5 pts for destroying JuggerNaught
1 pt for forcing JuggerNaught to flee
2 pt for Discovering the Truth About JuggerNaught's Origin and
successfully escaping
2 pt for Getting the NAC forces Destroyed and either
(1) Discovering Truth About JuggerNaught's Origin
(2) Destroying JuggerNaught
7+ (+ Destroy NAC forces) => You're the Man... instant
Promotion
7+ Decisive Victory
5+ Significant Victory
3+ You blew it...
< 3 So you think you can command a starship huh?
JuggerNaught
------------
Decisive Victory Anhilate all opposition with no survivors
Significant Victory Enemy forces lose 1/2 their force before
fleeing
Draw Enemy forces flee with less 1/2 losses
Significant Defeat Enemy forces discover your identity
Decisive Defeat Enemy forces discover your identity and
lose
less then 1/2 their forces
Historic Outcome
----------------
The NAC and ESU forces were in the middle of a heated verbal
exchange
when the Unknown vessel entered the system. Both Forces held
their
ground seperated out of weapons range and watched the Unknown
vessel
Approach ESU forces. Slightly outside of weapons range the
Unknown
Vessel begain discharing Fighters. The Ensuing fight with the
ESU
was particularly bloody and furious. The NAC forces chose to
join the
fight after the ESU CA was destroyed. More furious combat
ensued
resulting in the loss of the entire ESU fleet, both NAC
Minerva/A's
and serious loss of the NAC fighter forces. The Unknown Vessel
was seriously damaged and had both its drive and FTL knocked
out.
However serious damage to the Carrier and a crippled NAC DD
ended
a
possible chase before it begain. The JuggerNaught hurtled off
into
space with NAC forces having only discovered that it was indeed
of
human origin and made most of their ships look really punny and
weak.
