In short, do what you think *feels* right for your setting (PSB as 
required for your own conscience/sense of verisimilitude). Maybe this 
will stop the insidious creep of this discussion towards multivariate 
calculus using triple integrals, statistical properties, every sort 
of moment under the sun, and a lot of dubious assumptions....
(points to self as an offender).
