Well, in LRRP or similiar SF style team/patrols the "Medic" is more than
likely not 'just a medic'. In the Austaralian SASR and Infantry Recon
Platoon, the 'medic' is really just another specialist position in the
patrol, along with Comms, Demolitions or maybe Heavy Weapons (ie SAW).

So perhaps best not to cover SF in the same discussion.

Regular Army Infantry Battalions generally don't deploy Medical Corps
medic
below Coy level. As for arms, a small arms (carbine, SMG etc) for self
protection is allowed under the GC.
