    The 747 ABM laser uses visible, or very close to it, light lasers.
X-ray
lasers are typically powered by a nuclear weapon and destroy their own
aimer.
    The article describing the equipment, showed how the beam was
predistorted to compensate for atmospheric interference. Before you ask,
the
equipment is intended to be used above the clouds. :-)
