I've been playing about with the idea that the *only* place you can
jump is actually close to a star.. within a few light seconds.
You can make up a PBS reason... being near to a star is a fairly
unique place.
If you are into having FT parallel some of the issues of wet navy
combat... it makes jump points the equivalents of the narrow passages
of water that seperate the oceans...
