Well, I still consider myself an OGRE player; I still drag the cardboard
out
every so often, with maps scrounged from other games. I picked up some
OGRE
mins when they came out the last time (hopefully not the LAST time).
Most of
the armor units are pretty straightforward. The OGREs present some
problems.
As the Modular unit rules go in DS2, an OGRE is destroyed by a BOOM
result on
any module. In the spirit of giant cybertanks, this is unacceptable -
so we
threw it out! ;) My OGREs tend to take advantage of the modular rules -
medium-large size modules for the tread units, and oversize modules for
the
main hulls. Using the spaces from the tread units, I stuff a LOT into
the
main hulls, and armor everything heavily. MB (main batteries) are
usually
class4 or 5 DFFGs, 2B (secondary batteries) are class4-5 MDC, the AP
guns are
either APSW, RFAC1s, or MDC1s.	Usually the latter. For missiles, I
fudge a
bit and have some rules for one-shot artillery weapons - each is a heavy
artillery strike, usually nuclear. For the Paneuro Fencer and MkIVs, I
put in
full-fledged artillery weapons with a bunch of reloads.
OGREs are usually immobilized before being destroyed, if they are going
to
lose the battle at all. They are not quite worth the DS2 points (LOTS),
and
honestly, since DS2 doesn't have the magical nuke-protecting BiPhase
Carbide
armor, they easier to nuke from orbit.
At least until I get my surface-to-space weapons rules done...
