The ideas look interesting - if anyone tries them in practice please let
us
know the results!
Of course, the battery didn't "ignore" your FO's calls - the die rolls
also
represent the possibility that he simply can't get contact with the
battery
due to enemy jamming or communications problems. You might want to
modify
things for either landline comms (very low-tech but harder to jam!) or
tight-beam laser/maser, though this would require LOS to the battery OR
a
suitable satellite/ship to bounce a beam off.....

PS: I've always had this mental picture of the FO calling the Battery
and
getting: "Sorry, the Battery is unavailable at the moment - if you'd
like
to leave a message, please speak after the tone... BEEEEEP....."
