I had great problems trying to grasp the FT movement rules
when I first started playing. It just seemed so unnatural,
and I kept planning tactics in terms of 'real' movement for
several games.

I still prefer realistic movement to FT movement, but then
my brain has been hardwired into Hard SF from an early age!
