Vivat! Yes, I fully agree. Especially when most of my battles are either

one-off or in a homegrown universe...

Once again Vivat! If the Railguns and various plasma weapons can be 
balanced too we'd have lots of (generic) variation without balance 
problems... which is IMO a Good Thing (tm).
