A historical battle for FT

Subject: A historical battle for FT

How about Lissa? Italy v. Austro-Hungary, 1866.

Real version: The brand-new It. fleet of modern (for 1866!) ironclads,
led
by poor admiral (Persano) and lacking training and coordination, was
defeated by the A-H fleet, led by a skilled and aggressive admiral
(Tegethoff). The A-H fleet had a number of ironclads but included many
wooden steamers. The A-H fleet also lacked heavy guns. Ramming played
a
major role and this battle was a major factor in the prevalence of
"ramming
theory" in the late 19th century.

FT version:
1) Ironclads are warships; wooden vessels are Q-ships.
2) To simulate ramming, use submunition packs in the fore arc.
3) No fighters or missiles, so no PDAF are needed.
4) Most It. guns are 1-arc (or Port and Starboard 2-arc, if you care to
allow it) B-batteries, with an occasional A (e.g. on the turret-ram
"Affondatore") and some Cs.
5) Most A-H guns are C-batteries with a few Bs.
6) Most vessels have little firepower in the fore arc other than the SM
packs.
7) Ironclads have screen level 1, or level 2 for Affondatore
8) Italian vessels will be about Thrust=2, A-H will be about Thrust=3
(or
perhaps 4 and 5)

To keep it playable, give the Italians about 6 broadside ironclads and
the
Affondatore (perhaps as a reinforcement arriving from FTL, as she almost
missed the real battle) and the Austrians say 4 ironclads and 6 or 8
wooden
ships (not all as big as Kaiser). For "terrain", the planet (ex-island)
of
Lissa, with a couple of patches of asteroids and/or dust as shoals or
rocky
outcrops. For multiplayer games, the Italians should have more captains
to
maximize the possibility for confusion.
