I just wanted to share my experience with the 3Dfx graphics card. I
also used to have a Voodoo3 2000 card. Everything worked fine until
DirectX 8 came out and 3Dfx went out of business.

I used unofficial drivers for DirectX 8 but eventually experienced
strange errors (Windows 98 crashed at boot time). It seems, the drivers
are not fully compatible with DirectX 8.

Finally, I bought a gforce 3 card and had no problems. The Voodoo3 card
is in my second PC that I use only for simple applications and
raytracing.

Unfortunately, my only advice is to buy a graphics card where you can
get up to date drivers, i.e., NOT a no name card. For Orbiter, it
doesn't have to be the very latest one. Just wait until the next
generation graphics chips come out and buy last year's models... :-)
