R: Problems with win2k
Hi Philip!
I have quite the same configuration and the same problems. I have a AMD
Duron 1 Ghz with 256Mb ram and a Voodoo3 2000 16Mb. I've never seen some
scenarios that crash continuosly. I upgraded my drivers and the DirectX (my
dxdiag now reads 8.1 and says that's all ok) but everything keeps going the
same. My Orbiter.log says the same:

Oggetto: Re: Problems with win2k
Win2K Pro, AMD K6-2 500 Mhz w/ 320MB RAM and a VooDoo3 2000 (don't know how
much video memory).
The problem is a bit spotty, but it's constant in that I only get
errors/crashes when I try to run certain scenarios. For instance, I can open
the 'Blue Danube' scenario just fine multiple times, but the 'Cape
Canaveral' scenario crashes every time. When I mess with the video settings,
if the Launchpad doesn't hang I generally get a memory error ("the memory
could not be 'read'.") when I try running a scenario.
The last few paragraphs of Orbiter.log look like
"ERROR: ReadCompatibleSurface|ReadDDSSurface (code -2147467259)
ERROR: ReadCompatibleSurface|ReadDDSSurface (code -2147467259)
ERROR: ReadCompatibleSurface|ReadDDSSurface (code -2147467259)
Finished initialising world
ERROR: DDraw object is still referenced: 1570
ERROR: Destroy framework objects failed
[C:\Source\Orbiter\D3d7app.cpp / 595]"
Which makes me think it may be a DX problem. Has anyone had similar problems
that were fixed by a DX update? I'm not sure what version of DX I have, so
it's hard to say . . .

I also have XP Pro, an Althalon with an A7V M/B and 512mb ram, running a
GF2MMX and I have no problems at all.
I am running DX 8.2 with the signed 30.82 drivers. I know there are later
drivers but I have never found a reason to upgrade.
Hope this helps,
Stuart.

Roberto I have this exact same problem with Windows XP Pro, I am running an
AMD 1 Gig in a A7V Motherboard with 512mb Memory and a GEForce 2 MMX
Graphics Card and I cannot get the HUD to display and the Yellow Information
Writing at the top of the in game screen Flashes and flickers. The PC is
set up perfect, I run MS Flight Sim 2002 with all the Graphics Details etc
set to max and I do not have a problem, only the new Orbiter is messing me
about. If anyone has any ideas at all on a possible fix for this I would be
very grateful.
PS the Drivers I am using are the Latest NVidea 411.09. I thought my old
drivers were not upto punching Orbiter around for some reason so updated.
No effect.
Regards and Seasons Greetings to all,
Jon Watkins.

Sorry for the OT, but has anyone experienced a lot of crashes with win2k
pro? I have the italian version and meny scenarios crash telling that memory
couldn't be written, you know.
How can I work it around?
Thank in advance,
Roberto
