Originally, originally I'm Scottish. I spent most of my life in Canada, though.
It's not the thought of driving in snow that worries me. In 2000 I
drove back from New Orleans to Toronto after Mardi Gras, and got
caught in a bad snowstorm for most of the trip. Ended up sleeping part
of the night in the car under an emergency blanket parked beside a
Wendy's/Tim Horton's on the 401.
It's an awful long drive from Louisiana to PA at the best of times.
Add snow to the mix and drive times become quite a pain. I'd have to
plan to take at least an extra day off work each way, in case of the
weather.
The cars down here are not protected against road salt. I was amazed
at just how much longer brakes and exhaust systems last down here,
without road salt to contend with. If I were to go to an ECC I'd have
to rent a car so as not to put our own vehicles through that, which
just adds to a trip that I couldn't afford in the first place...
I'm sure you could possibly find a cheap flight to the B'more region and a sympathetic ECCer to drive you around and whatnot. ;-)
