Good. We're happy to expend a drone just to find out the existence of the mines; getting to kill an expensive missile in the process is gravy.

The remote sensor drone is essentially the equivalent of a 19th century cavalry scout. You blocked cavalry with cavalry. Send out your own remote sensor drone with a cheap weapon mounted on it, designed to take out, or at least impede, the other sensor drone. Even a shot gun would be enough to force the other guy to put more armour on it. Then you end up with the same escalation that went through World War One aircraft. Meanwhile, your remote gives the other side no more information than their remote gave your side.
