Re: Re: Re: Revised Missiles (long) was Re: [GZG] Heavymissilequestions.
If you play with missiles fired after ships move then as soon as you get
the enemy within 18mu you can fire a big salvo and be assured they will
all hit. You could even place them within 24 mu because the missiles get
an attack run.
IMO, missiles on the first round wouldn't get a seeking radius--so they'd
only have the 18mu range, not 24mu.
If used like that don't missiles become a direct fire weapon that always
hits?
Yep. They are target-seeking weapons!
This rule presupposes that the fighter/antifighter balance has been fixed,
either by beefing up PDS or by allowing anti-ship weapons to fire in point
defense mode; and/or that you have some ECM to divert the missiles.
The main skill in ordnance is in the guessing of the enemy intentions and
correct placement of missiles. If you replace the missiles with a move
after ships move then you have replaced pulse torpedos with missiles.
PTorps can't be shot down or ECM'd away. But yeah, these missiles act like
missiles instead of like mines, which is the way SM acts now.
