Re: [GZG] FT Beam5 Question...

Comparing B3 batteries and larger (those where you pay for a one-arc gun, and then pay extra for each additional firing arc), then assuming equal arcs, 1 * B5 = 2 * B4 = 4 * B3 in terms of mass and points, but NOT number of dice rolled at equivalent ranges. B5 batteries ONLY out-perform smaller classes (in proportion to mass & points) in the range bands where they can fire while the smaller classes are out of range and cannot fire at all. To get value for money from your B5s, you'll need to hold the range outside 36mu.

B5s might make sense if:

1. You play on a very large and/or floating table. Or use 1cm MUs perhaps.
2. You can bring your B5 batteries to bear on the target while still keeping the range open.
Consideration might include:
Starting velocities?
Do you play Vector or Cinematic movement rules?
Do you play the "No rear arc shooting" rule?
Ship design. Broadside guns? High thrust ratings?

B5 batteries might be tactically inflexible. One B5 can only engage one target per firing round. The same mass/point cost of B4s could engage two. The same mass/point cost of B3s could engage four. Subject to range and fire control of course.

B5 batteries put a lot of mass/point eggs in one basket. One threshold check could take out a lot of fire-power.

Can I have from anyone reasons not to have the B5 that I've missed or not covered?
