You need to read some of the old tactics discussions.  Escorts go
5-6 MU behind the ships they are escorting.  The are prime targets
at range as you can reduce throw weight and force ADFC/PDS.  You
want to force your opponent to chose a closer range shot at a less
vulnerable target or a longer range shot that may reduce effectiveness.

John, do you really go capitals first?   I like to eliminate
weapons as quickly as possible and that requires taking out small ships
first.
