Realistically, if you do end up implementing ANY kind of fixed
defenses, you'll end up putting them at your critical nodes.
Shipyards, colonies, anyplace the enemy has no choice to go if he
wants to do something. Jumpgates aren't one of those places when you
have multiple FTL engine types.
